Internet Food Service Intermediary (IFSI)

Hungry Hop is a Registered IFSI as under CDPH-FDB and comply to the general requirements for Internet Food Service Intermediaries under the Cal Code Chapter 11.6 that include clearly and conspicuously posting on the IFSI website the requirements for the permitting of a MEHKO by the local enforcement agency as specified in the California Retail Food Code (Cal Code), Chapter 11.6.

Requirements for the permitting of a MeHKO

  1. Submit a permit application to the local environmental health agency.
  2. Obtain an inspection of the MEHKO facilities.
  3. Complete an approved food manager certification.
  4. Have no more than one full-time employee, not including family members or household members.
  5. Pass an approved and accredited food safety manager certification examination.
  6. Obtain a Food Safety Certificate
  7. Employees and all persons that prepare or package MEHKO products must obtain a Food Handler Card

The areas of a MEHKO that will be permitted and inspected include: 

  1. The home kitchen
  2. Onsite consumer eating area
  3. Food storage
  4. Utensils and equipment
  5. Toilet room
  6. Cleaning facilities
  7. Storage area

Any fees associated with the amount being charged for the services provided on the Internet Web site or mobile application.

Listing Fees: There is no fee for listing a home-cooked meal on the platform.

How a consumer can report a food safety complaint to the Internet food service intermediary and local enforcement agency (LEA).

Hungry Hop, being a registered IFSI, takes sincere concerns with regards to food safety and complaints about meals ordered from our registered MEHKO partners. If in case a food order has resulted in some form of foodborne illness to the customer, or the food does not match the food safety requirements mentioned under the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), then the customer may take the following steps to lodge a complaint against the concerned MEHKO.

1. Contact us through website or mobile app to report a food safety complaint. Consumers should mention in their complaint:

  1. The date, time along with the receipt of the order
  2. The name of the MEHKO where the food was purchased.
  3. A detailed description of the food safety complaint
  4. Any photos or videos of the food

2. Kindly maintain a copy of their complaint and any other relevant documentation for records.
3. Contact the local enforcement agency. Consumers can also contact the local enforcement agency to report a food safety complaint. The local enforcement agency will investigate the complaint and take appropriate action.

To find the contact information for the local enforcement agency, consumers can visit the CDPH website or call 1-800-495-3232. By reporting food safety complaints to us and the local enforcement agency, consumers can help to keep themselves and others safe from foodborne illness.

Additionally, we confirm that we completely comply with Cal Code 11.6 requirements:

If notified by the local enforcement agency of any significant food safety-related complaints from a verified consumer that has made a purchase through Hungry Hop, then we will immediately submit to the local enforcement agency the name and permit number of microenterprise home kitchen operation where the food was purchased, and a list of consumers who purchased food on the same day from that microenterprise home kitchen operation.

Hungry Hop will willingly submit the name and permit number of a microenterprise home kitchen operation to the LEA if it receives three or more unrelated individual food safety-related complaints from consumers that have made a purchase through our platform within two weeks of the third complaint received.

Hungry Hop doesn't entertain Advertisement of third-party delivery services for food produced by a microenterprise home kitchen operation, except as authorized under Cal Code Section 114367.5. (2)(b).

We do not allow the use of the word "catering" or any variation of that word in a listing or publication of a microenterprise home kitchen operation's offer of food for sale.
